Families Growing Together for Healthier Living

Dates:     Meets monthly throughout the year (Tuesdays) - February 21, March 20, April 24, May 22, August 7, October 9
Please note that registration is limited to 20 families from Columbia & Greene Counties

Presenter:  Beth L. Horton, Extension Program Educator
Location:  Catskill High School Home Economics Room

This program is designed to bring families together for an evening of fun and learning.  We will cook and eat a light dinner and spend time learning about the various foods we eat and get physically active as a family.  All this for a healthier lifestyle.  Participating families will be given materials to start their own herb garden and seeds for a beginning vegetable garden and includes dinner.  Our program will end in October with a special meal prepared by a special guest chef.

  • Timberdoodles & Snickerdoodles: Woodcock Walk

    Friday, May 11 (raindate May 18)
    from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
    CCE's Agroforestry Resource Center, Acra
    $5.00 per person or $10.00 per family

     

    Timberdoodle is a knick-name for the American woodcock (Scolopax minor), a ground-nesting migratory bird with a spectacular courtship ritual. Snickerdoodles are delicious snacks that participants will enjoy before we set out on a timberdoodle hunt! This program will include an indoor session where we will learn about the life history of woodcocks and their importance on the Northeastern landscape (and eat some snickerdoodles). At twilight, we’ll head over to the open fields at the Siuslaw Model Forest to observe the fantastic courtship flight of the male woodcock.  Presenter: Liz LoGiudice, Extension Educator
