Parenting Education Program
The Parenting Education Program in Greene County consists of two distinct programs designed to provide parents with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective parents. The two programs are the Home-Based Parenting Education Program and the Parenting Skills Training Program.
The Home-Based Parenting Education Program
The Home-Based Parenting Education Program works intensively with families in the home who have been referred exclusively by the Greene County Department of Social Services and other social service agencies. In order to participate, a family must be referred by the Greene County Department of Social Services or other social service.
The experienced parenting educators provide hands-on practical education in any of the following areas:
- Parenting skills
- Child development and growth
- Creating and maintaining a healthy, child friendly home environment
- Home economics, including budgeting and consumer skills
- Nutrition education (provided by the ESNY nutrition educators)
- Communication Skills
- Accessing community resources
- Time management skills
- Modeling quality interaction with children
Parenting Skills Training Program
The Parenting Skills Training Program entails a 16 week series of classes that are open to the general public and cover a variety of topics. They take place at the Department of Social Services and are offered twice a week: Tuesdays 1:30-2:30 and Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 starting in February. For a complete schedule please see the link below.
